More WT Propaganda: Low Paying Jobs are OK for Family Heads. Just "Don't Miss the Meetings!"
by Oubliette ingod, evidently, wants you to be poor: .
a newly baptized brother is married, and he and his wife have three small children.
one day, a workmate suggested that he and the brother move to another company that paid a higher wage and provided more benefits.

There are JWs who help the oldies and disadvantaged ones, but non-JWs do the exact same to help their own families, friends and communities. JWs are no different really: some are generous, some say "Go in peace and be well fed".

LOL and Jesus may not have had anywhere to lay his head, but he knew his ministry was only for 3 odd years so it doesn't matter. It's a bit harder if you're pushing 80 and living under a bridge after a 60+ year ministry, or like the old timers I know of rotting in old folks' home with nothing but a roof over their heads, and the only contact they get is when some JWs pass him around among themselves to picks them up once a week for the meeting, after which it's back to the old folks' home with no visitor until next week when some JW family gets cadged into shoving him in the car in the back with the kids.

Funny, now my husband and I aren't rushing from pillar to post to get ready for meetings, prep our loungeroom for the witnessing group, have him rushing to get to the hall early and stay late to do the magazine counter and sound system, and driving to and from assemblies in the boondocks and getting suits drycleaned and all the stupid prestudy, we actually have a lot more time with each other, even though he now has a job that causes him to miss meetings. Now we don't have to work as much as we did when we were JWs because we don't have to pay for meeting clothes, we use far less petrol, no contributions, tolls for the road to the assemblies, parking at the DC and all that.
If Andre or whoever actually stopped all the JW stuff he wouldn't need to work as much...ironic.
I work heaps less than when I was a JW and seem to have more money around these days...

Nov 20, 2013 Letter to All Congregations (RE: Phillipines Disaster Relief)
by Gayle in"however, it would be appreciated if such donations are made without restrictions as to where and how the funds may be used.
" additionally, at this time, there is no need for donations of food, clothing, or other items.
if such needs arise in the future, you will be notified accordingly.

630 000 people displaced. That's more than the population of the city I live in. The GB could afford to house all those people I'm sure, but they need to 'advance pure worship' by building themselves a resort.

Why I am upset with myself for my atheistic beliefs
by confusedandalone inyesterday me and the wife were talking about how much better life has become.
she said something that got me thinking and made me a bit sad for a while.
we were discussing where we are at individually in our quest for understanding about the "super-natural" and i expressed i have no belief in it at all and how much i have changed she says, "i don't think you have changed much.

It's all good. Probably because all your life you've been told atheists are immoral, irresponsible and stupid is bearing on your conscience. You are probably feeling guilty for becoming the thing JWs derided more than believers 'caught up in false religion'. But I'm sure it will pass like everything. Heck, I'm still scared of Christmas, but it won't be forever...you'll work it out.

That is not a serious question- Cofty
LOL that cracked me up so much. So true. I was expecting a question like, "If evolution is true, does that mean genocide is justified as a stronger group prevailing over a weaker group that lacked the necessary ability to adapt to survive?" not some silly question about comic fantasy characters!!!

JWS moving into the 2010s: GREATER FOCUS ON "PUBLIC' VENUE PREACHING
by steve2 inincreasingly, jw.org and its print publications show lots of pictures of witnesses preaching one-to-one to "interested" passersby in public venues in contrast with fewer pictures depicting the door-to-door work.
sure, d-t-d is still the organizatrion's mainstay activity - but clearly it pushes at every opportunity the need for the rank and file to "go" public.. this push could be a two-edge sword: there is obviously a hard core of witnesses whose dispositions draw them to this type of social outreach: they almost rush out to do this public-venue work, prefering it to d-t-d. but i'd hazard a guess that for the bulk of those in local congregations, the public-venue witnessing would be a total turn off.. to date, in new zealand, i have seen no evidence of jws doing this public venue witnessing - despite the huge push on jw.org and in the publications.
kiwis just don't seem inclined to put themselves out in public places - or if they do, it is in a kind of very muted way (i.e., almost out of sight and unobtrusive).. this site has shown that in a few places, including mexico, at least a few of the more publicly zealous witnesses are doing the public work big time.. is the public venue preaching happening elsewhere, such as asia?

We had business territory in my last cong, where we would go into shops and offices and offer the attendants magazines. I really liked that, much better than door to door because I could also look at the nice things in the shops. The staff also had to be nice to JWs walking in because we could be potential customers so there was no expletives or shut doors.
When I lived in Cairns however, we would do the Esplanade and I hated that, absolutely couldn't approach strangers out on the street with a tract. I can't say I was thrilled about d2d either, but it was much easier to have a door frame around someone when talking to them. Some JWs here love the public witnessing though, like the ones who buy an all day bus pass and spend the day riding the busses and witnessing at the passengers. Most people aren't into that sort of thing; only the more confident and gregarious ones. It's like only certain types of people go into sales and direct selling. Most of us don't have the personality to pull that sort of thing off.
Now here on the Gold Coast, Australia, I've not yet seen those carts or stands. I can imagine some JWs would like that because they sit there all day doing nothing, and can easily rack up the hours. I personally would not like to sit at a stand because I don't want to be where everyone can see me. People who value privacy would probably be put off that sort of thing.

Yes! Teaching is a damn hard job, but it can be damn rewarding. I'm a teacher and there's nothing like having a kid say, "Thanks for the lesson, Miss," or to see them do well at something you've taught them. It's its own reward to see them achieve or improve, and nothing compares with gaining the trust and respect of the kids over a year or more.
